The bravest thing that I have done when no one was watching I guess was making sure that people knew that I had been SA’d by my section sergeant. So in other words I made sure that I reported this situation, because I don’t need any other females being assaulted by this man. Overall its fucked up to know that some of our soldiers out there are being taken advantage of and no one is doing anything about it. I mean it wasn’t easy to reveal this because it took a couple months, because by then I was having recurring dreams about it happening and then all the harassment I had over the next few months. It took about 6 months for me to come forward and when I did that is when I found out that they were not there to help me, but to strictly kick me out. Well can you blame me, once I was the only female left at the platoon I started in the beginning with when my new section sergeant wanted to help me, along with the 2nd Lieutenant that we worked with.
I had to finally leave this platoon because at this point I was already on 24 hour suicide watch, with a soldier I chose to watch after me and make sure I stay alive until I move. Once I moved I was relocated to Camp Red Cloud with the main company being there. I had other battle buddies that would watch out for me and eventually become long time friends. I was still the only female in this office but these guys respected me, made me feel like I had a family, and they have protected me from those that have tried to come after me. Eventually I would have to keep attending group therapy for people that are unable to cope with the transition, you know the ones that could not cope with being overseas for the first time. So eventually they would state that I could not deal with military life, when that was not the reason I was in that therapy to begin with. So I further get screwed and I am out of the military after I just did 18 months. So after being overseas I was r*ped twice, by an NCO and a Specialist at the time, but get kicked out for not being able to cope.
That is some shit right. Well I guess you could say that was the bravest thing I have done, but I also try to bring awareness to the fact that some soldiers deal with this on a daily basis and it needs to stop. I mean it’s 25 years later and I still never got any justice for everything I went through and still continue to go through, but I try to talk with those that could use my help. I’m not going to lie, but I am very mentally disturbed since my PTSD has gotten worse over the years and sometimes I just can’t be in close proximity with males, so I choose my family based on who I trust and you know who you are, but MST, military sexual trauma is real and should be addressed.
