Languages I Speak!

Daily writing prompt
Which languages do you speak and how did that impact your life?

Well if you were curious and wondered whether I was a full blood, half blood? Right? Well I am a full blooded Navajo. When I was a little girl I have memories of when I used to sing myself to bed in Navajo or at least what I was hearing at the time was Navajo or how your grandma from back in the day would sing while weaving a rug or other Navajo-ly things. I know that us Navajos aren’t the only ones that sing songs. I also remember helping my grandmother at 5 and she did not speak English, so I somehow picked up the Navajo. To tell you the truth, it was my parents’ idea for me to learn English first and Navajo next. So you know that when it came to English in High School I was very good at this subject, and truth be told I wrote speeches, memos, and various documents for my parents since they learned Navajo first and later English.

For me it was easier to understand it than being able to speak it, but my parents would always treat me like I am stupid and can’t speak my own language, so they think I don’t understand. Now after  many years of growing and learning that language is good to go, plus I can write and read my language. Those aren’t the only languages I learned, because when I did get to High School I decided to take Spanish and to my dad it was not a big deal whether I passed or failed Spanish, because as racist as he is, he says that’s the language that Mexicans speak, you don’t need that! Well I loved Spanish I with Mr. Barker and then I took Spanish II with Mr. Rangael and I were one of the top two in that class. So I would explore the world with the languages I know and move to learn others.

So now I am a Polyglot and well my Spanish now is awesome, because I can translate and flow. My brain has literally turned into an auto-translate for these three languages and it is simpler than before. I do know Spanish, but I know what you would say is Puerto Rican Spanish, and the difference is that one annunciates each part of the word, while PR is knowing how to speak slang and fast. Thanks to Reggaeton, I have  harnessed this gift, but all this time I have been nurturing my gift, so I pick up words quickly, no matter where I go. I actually know some Korean, Russian, Deutch, German, etc. I welcome all the language knowledge.
