Did you ever continue your education after being discharged!

Well I was discharged towards the end of 2002 and for awhile I did not work, because at the time my husband was trying to be the MAN and prefered me to stay home and take care of the house and animals that we would have. I probably would have gone to school earlier if I knew that I had benefits that I could use even after being discharged the way I did, but better late than never! So after getting married in 2002, we then became pregnant and had our daughter in 2004. 4 years later my husband’s father would pass. 2 years after that in 2010 I took a chance and went to school for Web Design & Interactive Media at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I went this route because at the time MySpace was big and I was a wiz with the codes and would create other peoples pages for them and then I met my first latin group that would start a new change.

I graduated in 2012 with an Associate’s of Science and knew more about html, css, javascript, various codes for creating digital art using Adobe Photoshop when the download CD was about a grand, but well worth it and the Army paid for that. I graduated with a 3.9 gpa. After I graduated in April of 2012, in June of that year we moved back to New Mexico. At first my husband tried to work, but nothing was working and so I decided to take over and applied for Housekeeping. I mean easy since my mom was the housekeeping supervisor when I was growing up so I always had white glove tests. I would start in 2012, I would get injured in 2013, but then I am taunted by the IT Department Supervisor and that if I went back to school for IT, he would hire me. NEVER tell me something and I put my mind to it and accomplish it.

Eventually I would transfer from Gallup Indian Medical Center to Tohatchi Health Clinic as a Housekeeper as well in 2014. I would then go to school for Information Technology, which with my previous school and my MOS (military occupational speciality) would allow me to attain my next degree which would be a Bachelor’s in Science for Information Technology that I would get in 2015 and at that same time would transfer back to GIMC as an IT Specialist, for only 5 months, but I got to do my dream and showed others that tried to kick me back down that I never back down. Even my parents know I am crazy and when I say I am going to do something, I get it DONE! My job ended on October 15th of 2015, so I left and never looked back. Of course I decided to go back to school again in Information Technology as well, but for Security and Assurance, which got me to my Master’s in Science, which I acquired in 2019. After that I went to school for Photography from the New York Institute of Photography. Nothing else follows, but it always crosses my mind to learn something all the time.

Either way, if you put your mind to something you want or is your goal, push and you will receive what you want. Plus it is like the best feeling to know that you pushed yourself, but don’t doubt yourself. Some of us got a late start, but found out that we were brains all along, plus having the background of being part of the Signal Corp. with the United States Army!
