So now we wer down a Rottie and all that was left was Shnookums, so one day we decided to go to this Rottweiler Rescue that was located North near Fred Wilson. The rescue was actually at some woman’s house, but she had some great dogs and we came across, at the time his name was Charlie! He was 2 years old and the adoption fee for him was $250.00, which we paid. However, we had a Grand Prix at the time and our daughter was waiting in her car seat since she was like 4, but this Rottie you could already tell that he was special because of the factor that he bonded with my baby right away, that was when I knew he would be a keeper. We would eventually change his name to “Cucuy” or like many Mexicans say it means the boogeyman or a monster.
Now Cucuy was a German Rottweiler and his tail was docked, so just a twitching stub, but so cute. Of course don’t be fooled by his cuteness, because when it comes to his family he is very protective. Especially when it has to do with his Mama, or his sister. Funny thing is whenever my husband and I would fight and I would ignore Nick, my rottie will do the same. Like he knows and he looks at him like “you ain’t shit”, but of course it was impossible not to love the way Cuco was. Yes that is his short version or we just called him “papa”. He also liked to bite Nick’s heels when he would dance in front of him. Unfortunately one day Cucuy could not walk right and he was having troubles walking, so we took him to the clinic and they said he had ehrlichia. He would go completely paralyzed, but I brought him inside and cared for him even to the point that I got him walking again.
Cucuy was a great help and safety net when my husband was in New York and I was by myself with my daughter he would sleep at the foot of my bed on the floor. Eventually in 2012 was when we decided to move back, so he had more room to run. However, the time that he had that infection from a tick well it took a lot out of him and he only lasted to the age of 10. He was my true baby boy, my pride and joy. When he passed my heart was breaking over and over again. I raised and trained this dog greatly and even my parents will talk about how great he was as well. I miss you Cucuy, I know that you are here with me still, but it is hard without you. Love you always. I’ll share more on him later, but for now this was Cucuy!
